Beginnings

Welcome friends! I have started this entry in the global technosphere because I have been in love with books since the age of 2. Among the busy business of being a new teacher, this is my outlet for sharing thoughts on a love of reading a wide variety of books. My inspiration can be summed up with a yearbook quote from a teacher written when I was 8: "To the only girl at recess I see reading a book. Good for you!"
My blog title is quoted from a classmate who asked me this once. Believe it or not, I've also heard it as a teacher :D

Happy 1-Year Blogoversary!

I'm posting this a day early...I'm too excited to hold back :D

Wow!  It was one year ago, August 11, 2010, that I was strolling through the Internet, minding my own business, when suddenly...wham!  I entered the world of book blogging and haven't looked back.  Well, maybe I peeked :D

Thank you to all my book blogging friends, followers, and new visitors for your kind comments and support in keeping this blog going for the last year.  You are all fabulous :)

In celebration of this prestigious event (please leave the ballgowns & tuxes at home :), I hope you will honour me by sharing one book or author in the comments below that you would like to recommend to me.  I'm always on the look-out for fascinating new material and if you know the kind of books that I like to read & review on this blog (I'm very eclectic), then I hope you'll let me in on the literary secret I've been missing out on :)

Thanks again & here's to another terrific year of book blogging!

  2. Congratulations on a full year of blogging books!!! After combing through your "lifetime must - read list" I would highly recommend Life of Pi. I'm trying to restrain myself from adding 4 or 5 more....

    Here's to another successful year!!!

  3. Happy Blogoversary!!

Funny how time flies by, isn't it?

Hmmm...well, my top books would include The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, The HUnger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, and ROOM by Emma Donoghue. Of course, none of these are big secrets! These were all big-name books.

I also really enjoy novels by Jennifer Haigh, especially Baker Towers and The Condition (I posted a review today).

I enjoy your blog - glad you decided to start it a year ago!

And my recommendation to you... hmmm... I'd say The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It is epic in it's awesomeness.

  8. Congrats!!!!! I can't believe it's only been a year, I feel like I've read your blog for longer than that! I'm trying to think of a good book that I don't think you've read. How about The Shadow of the Wind or Empire Falls? Both are wondeful!

  9. Congratulations on your blogoversary. You know they say the first year is the hardest :-) Recommending a single book/author is tough...I'm gonna go with Phillipa Gregory, because you haven't read much historical fiction on this blog yet.

  10. Many thanks for all your kind comments & book recommendations! I am noting them for future reading...I've got my work cut out for me :)

Just FYI, for Sue & Dizzy, I have read, reviewed & absolutely loved The Poisonwood Bible and 84 Charing Cross Road. You thinking of recommending these books to me shows how much you know my reading style :D

  11. Congrats to you! I remember when you first started.

I have been loving Murakami's work so I would recommend anything by Haruki Murakami. I started with Kafka on the Shore and I am now reading Dance, Dance, Dance. I just ordered another three of his books.
