Beginnings

Welcome friends! I have started this entry in the global technosphere because I have been in love with books since the age of 2. Among the busy business of being a new teacher, this is my outlet for sharing thoughts on a love of reading a wide variety of books. My inspiration can be summed up with a yearbook quote from a teacher written when I was 8: "To the only girl at recess I see reading a book. Good for you!"
My blog title is quoted from a classmate who asked me this once. Believe it or not, I've also heard it as a teacher :D

Literary Blog Hop

Literary Blog Hop

A weekly meme hosted @ The Blue Bookcase.
This week's topic is from Robyn @ You Think Too Much:

What setting (time or place) from a book or story would you most like to visit? Eudora Welty said that, "Being shown how to locate, to place, any account is what does most toward making us believe it...," so in what location would you most like to hang out?

Besides the fictional construct of the perfect place where characters hardly seem to work for a living & earn every happiness imaginable by the whimsical stroke of a writer's pen?  *Ahem* I digress :D

The first answer that popped into my head is the land of Oz from the iconic movie The Wizard of Oz (one of my 100 Favourite Movies) and the L. Frank Baum books.  There is something magical and wish-fulfilling about this place that brings back childhood memories and wouldn't everyone love to be a kid again, walking the Yellow Brick Road, getting pampered at the Emerald City, and making new friends along the way?

  1. Now Oz would be fun. Although I do have memories of scary trees, flying monkeys, and witches, too. And even Glinda was a bit creepy, come to think of it. I'm not sure I would have survived Oz!

  4. Thanks for all your comments :)

Susan~ Yes, I admit I eliminated the baddies from my vision of Oz :D Interesting--Glinda struck me as being too perfect to be real.

mel u & Sarah~ Yes, it's one of my favourites, too :) I love that it stands up over time & kids of all ages (even young-at-heart adults) enjoy watching it.

  5. Oz isn't the same for me as it used to be, since I read Wicked. I'm heading to Narnia.

  6. No all that enforced singing, then there's that wicked witch & the Lion wouldn't trust him with my life.

  7. I second the Narnia sentiment. Only after the White Witch is defeated, of course. As much as I love the movie, I've never wanted to visit Oz-odd, I'll have to think about why that is!

  8. Oh well done! Oz is a great place to be. Though Charlie and the Choclate Factory also sounds good, what with all the sweeties and everything.

  9. Oz is a great answer. I kept trying to think of fictional places that I would like to go to, but couldn't, which made me think I might be reading a bit too much dystopian lit.

  10. Great answer! As long as we are talking about Baum and not Maguire; although Maguire's would definitely be more intriguing...
